Warwick

Lindy took me to Warwick for the day. She is so nice, very friendly and easy to talk to. She has a partnership with one of the ladies I am house sitting for, they are theater directors, and they also teach theater at the high school.
Anyway, today was her day off, so she took me out.
Warwick is a very nice, quaint town, with many old buildings and picturesque streets, and the Warwick Castle. It’s about 30 minutes from Coventry. On the ride there we passed through Meridian, and there is the exact center of England. They have a plaque with some flowers showing the spot.
The medieval castle was built in 1068, but now a day is used as a tourist attraction, with a program of daily activities including jousting, archery, falconry and combat shows. It has a dungeon with decaying bodies, chanting monks, torture implements, execution and a scary mirror maze.  There are princesses and princes walking through the castle and there are restaurants, or you can picnic on the garden. To my taste, it was too touristic; it did not look like an old castle, so we did not go in.
We claimed the church tower to see the whole town, and it was a very nice view of the town.
We had lunch at a pub, a nice tomato and mozzarella Panini and of course in the afternoon we had tea with cake.
Everybody drinks hot tea all day long; in the afternoon, between 3 and 5, they drink cream tea, which consist of tea and scones with clouded cream, (which is something like whipped grainy butter) and strawberry jam, very typical; or tea with cake. The tea is served with milk and sugar.
I love afternoon tea; it is a great custom that I grow up with. In Uruguay we have afternoon tea every day. In the states you have coffee breaks we have tea.
