Lindy was going to London for the day to attend a clown workshop, so I hitch a ride with her. As I crossed the London Bridge I saw some of the streets where closed to traffic, just to find out, that it was the last day of the Tour of Britain. The race was between 2 and 4 pm.
I did some sightseeing and at 2pm, I went to see the race. As I walked along the bank, I found a nice wall where many people were sitting waiting for the race, just to realize that the wall was a little too high for me to climb. A few feet from me was this couple and the man was giving a boost to his wife, so I asked him for a boost too, that is how I made it up the wall. After couple laps the couple left, I stayed for one more lap, and then I desired to keep on walking toward Big Ben, where the race was ending. The dilemma was that the wall still was too high, I could not jump down, so I asked a man for help, he just pick me up by my waist like if I was a feather.
I tell you, everybody was so nice, so friendly; I talked with like 20 people along the way, I also stopped along the way to see the races every time they went by, until I reached the finish line.
It was nice to see the first lap, all of the bicyclist together going as fast as they can, and then seeing them separating into groups, with 5 or 6 in the front, then the peloton and then one lonely cyclist at the end. The crowd cheered every time they went by, it was exiting. By the 10th and last lap, they had a speed of 27mph. And the winner was…. Norway.
I was in Paris in 2001 during the Tour de France; of course I went to the champ elysees to see it. It was great seeing Lance Armstrong win it for the 3rd time. It was also great when they played the American anthem, it just gave you chills. It just made you proud.
