Pecha Kucha

One night I went to a Pecha Kucha night, just in case you do not know what it is:
Pecha Kucha (chit chat in Japanese) is a new way to do power point presentations. It was created by the two architects that found that people start to wander when presentations are too long, or there is too much written on the power point. So they come out with presentations that consist of 20 slices, 20 seconds each.  Each slice forward automatically and it has not writing on it, it just pictures or illustrations of what you are talking about. The whole presentation is only 6 1/2  minutes, so the audience gets a fast moving presentation and the pictures helps remember better what it has been said.
In 2003 Tokyo had the first Pecha Kucha night to give young designers a forum for their presentations and to network with other companies.
Pecha Kucha night has had became a worldwide event, having events in different countries about any topic that the presenter loves or is interested on.
I have done Pecha Kucha about taxes and I have done a few training sections.  I have attended in the USA, England and now Uruguay.  One of the presenter in Uruguay, (sorry, I forgot his name) was great, he gave a presentation about common sense and had us laughing nonstop.
If you want to learn more, www.pecha-kucha.org and look on their calendar to find one near you, or just look into the sample demonstrations they have.

La Vela Puerca

One night I went to see the private preview of the unveiling of the documentary about “La Vela Puerca”, it was great. Just to see those guys having fun, doing what they love, and after 14 years, still having fun and still doing what they love.  It was funny seeing them how young they were when they started, not that they are old, but, they were just kids. They are a great band, and they are still so nice, no fame and popularity went to their heads, it is amazing. And they are all the same people they started with, the sound tech, the roadies, and they all still friends and getting along just great.

Another night I went to see “La Vela Puerca” concert in the Summer Theater, what a great performance. The place was sold out, and what a show, it was great, the energy, the music, the fans. Just beautiful.

I guess by now you know that I am one of those fans.

Uruguay

The Oriental Republic of Uruguay is a country in South America.  It lies between Argentina to the west, Brazil to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.
Often called the Switzerland of South America, Uruguay remains a country of peace and prosperity.
It is the second-smallest country in South America, and it is a charming little country with a flourishing tourism industry.
Uruguay is a lay country, neutral, with legalized same-sex marriages, a high literacy rate, an independent press, and off shore banking.
An estimated 95% of the population is of European descent mostly Italian, Spanish, English, French and Swiss, having immigrated in the 18th and 19th century and Germans and Jews in the 20th century.  Now-a-day, many Europeans and Americans are immigrating to Uruguay due to the economy, opportunities, weather, beautiful beaches and the relaxed way of living.

0 to 22

I enjoyed seen my family and spending time on the many beaches in my country. Besides it was nice leaving winter behind and enjoying summer after summer and then going back to Europe for another summer.
I like to walk, so I went to the old city and from there to the port and then I started walking the boardwalk. By the time I reached the 0 point I already walked about 4 or 5 miles. Then I proceeded to keep on walking, enjoying the view, the fresh salty air and looking at all the familiar places of long ago.
One of the best fixtures of Uruguay are the beaches, one after the other, all through the littoral, and by now you guessed how much I like them, after all I mentioned them I don’t even know how many times in just these three paragraphs.
I had lunch in one of the many barbecue places in the port market. I eat a big piece of meat with Russian salad, and I eat so much, I needed the walk after that lunch. Besides, one of the reasons I like to walk it’s because you can take your time and see everything around. If you take a bus, or drive, you don’t get to see everything.
I walked to kilometer 22, which is about 13.67 miles. No bad for one day.
