My daughter and granddaughter drove me to the Charlotte airport in North Carolina.
I checked my suitcase and I, and we stayed there talking until it was time to embark.
As I cried and kissed, and hugged, and cried some more, I turned around I went on my way.
My flights were from Charlotte, North Carolina to Kennedy in New York in US Airways; from Kennedy to Dublin, Ireland and from Dublin to Birmingham, England in Aer Lingus.
As a typical flight, we sat on the tarmac for over 2 hrs; it was good that I had a 3 ½ hrs layover in New York; otherwise, I would never have made my connection. In Kennedy we sat in the tarmac for 1:25 hrs, I watched most of a movie while sitting there. We arrived in Dublin within 6 minutes of my next flight.
They had a lady waiting for me and two guys to take us to our connecting flight that was waiting for us, so, we made it.
Now a day you do not even get any pretzels (forget the peanuts) in the flights. In US Airways we had a glass of soda or water. In Aer Lingus from Kennedy to Dublin, we got dinner; it was not bad, but very small. However, from Dublin to Birmingham they were selling soda, water, snacks and sandwiches. It still amazes me that we do not even get water in a flight that we pay good money for.
Anyway, I arrived in Birmingham, England, on time. I went to the carousel to pick up my suitcase, with all my belongings, and I waited, and waited, and waited, and once there were no more suitcases coming out, the other two guys and me, realized that our suitcases never made it to the plane.
I can understand that, after all we only had 6 minutes between flights; they did not have the time to transfer the suitcases. No problems, they will be here the next day. We all filled all the paper work for the luggage and left, with the notion that we will be contacted by noon the next day to let us know what time they will be delivering our suitcases.
No big deal.
