One day my host in Croatia took me to Papuk Mountain to see the national
park and Jankovac waterfall.
What a beautiful park, after lunch at the restaurant where we had
stroganoff with gnocchi, we walked the park and then we did one of the 4 trails
toward the waterfall.
It was a great walk, except for when the dog found a big snake right on
the trail, but it had a round head so it was not poisonous, so we kept on
walking.
As we arrived at the waterfall I started taking pictures while looking
at the water cascading on the rocks.
So, there I am, opening my arms in admiration while praising the beauty
before me, when, as I lift my right arm, I see my camera, that has been hanging
on my wrist, fly high and far descending into the waterfall, landing on a rock in
the crystal clear water.
By the time I saw it happening, it happened. It only took a few seconds
but it was like if I was seeing it in slow motion and by the time I screamed “my
camera”, it already was at the bottom of the waterfall.
I did not care about losing the camera, however the pictures I did not
want to lose. So I descended the rocks into the water, that by the way there
were not cold, and I retrieved my camera and climbed right back up.
After 5 days on being in a plate with rice on a window sill by the sun,
the camera still was not working, but I saved my pictures.
